Preponderance of the Small by Rebecca Marjesdatter
Perhaps
the carp,
transformed into a dragon,
sits upon his jeweled lotus throne
in his undersea palace,
surrounded by brocaded courtiers
and moon-faced dragon maidens,
drinking wine from jade cups
and eating with ivory sticks
and thinks forlornly
of frog's eggs in the reeds
and moonlight broken
on small, still waters.
